Maximum temperatures in these regions generally ranged between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius, with some locations exceeding 37 degrees Celsius.
Forecasters said the heatwave would continue on June 2, with temperatures remaining between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius and some areas expected to surpass 39 degrees Celsius.
The widespread hot conditions are forecast to persist for several more days.
Looking further ahead, meteorologists expect scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop across northern Vietnam during the evenings of June 8 and June 9, with some areas likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall.
The weather agency also said the Central Highlands and southern Vietnam would continue to see moderate rain and scattered thunderstorms over the next two days, particularly during the afternoon and evening.
Thunderstorms may be accompanied by tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusty winds.
Forecasters expect one or two additional widespread heatwaves during June, with maximum temperatures generally ranging from 36 to 39 degrees Celsius and exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in some locations.
The most intense heat is forecast to affect mountainous areas west of the corridor stretching from Thanh Hoa Province to Hue City.
The agency said average temperatures nationwide during June are expected to remain 0.5 to one degree Celsius above the long-term average.
