The Ministry of Industry and Trade has sent a directive to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), the Vietnam Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (VAMM), and vehicle manufacturers and assemblers operating in the country, requesting a comprehensive review of the compatibility of vehicles with E10 gasoline.

The assessment will cover automobiles and motorcycles currently manufactured, assembled, imported, distributed and operating in Vietnam.
Manufacturers have been asked to evaluate engine compatibility, fuel injection and delivery systems, and materials that come into contact with fuel. The review must also examine the impact of E10 gasoline on vehicle performance, fuel consumption, engine durability and emissions.
In addition, companies are required to identify any technical requirements, maintenance procedures or component replacements necessary to ensure stable vehicle operation when using E10 fuel.
The ministry has instructed manufacturers to compile lists of vehicle models that are fully compatible with E10, conditionally compatible, or not recommended for use with the fuel, if applicable. The reports must include technical explanations and proposed solutions.
Vehicle makers are also required to publish official guidance for each model, clearly identifying vehicles recommended for E10 use, maintenance considerations, circumstances requiring inspection before switching fuels, and recommendations for older vehicles.
The ministry urged companies to strengthen public communication and technical consultation efforts to improve consumer awareness of the benefits of biofuels and the government’s fuel transition roadmap.
Manufacturers must also establish procedures to receive and address customer feedback related to E10 fuel use. Consumers should be provided with guidance on recognising technical issues that may arise during the initial transition period, including recommendations on cleaning fuel systems, replacing fuel filters and carrying out periodic maintenance when necessary.
Dealerships, service centres and maintenance facilities have been instructed to ensure adequate staffing, spare parts and technical support plans during the rollout of E10 gasoline.
Companies are required to compile and submit their assessment results to the ministry by June 5.
