Over two tonnes of spoiled pork cracklings seized en route to Hanoi

Police in Hung Yen Province have intercepted a truck carrying more than two tonnes of pork cracklings showing signs of spoilage that were being transported to Hanoi for sale.

The seizure was made on the morning of May 29 during a routine patrol by traffic police on a local road in Tan Thuan Commune.

After stopping the vehicle for inspection, officers discovered around 2.1 tonnes of pre-processed pork fat, commonly known as pork cracklings, in the cargo compartment. The products showed signs of mould and emitted a strong unpleasant odour.

The 45-year-driver told that the shipment had been purchased in Thanh Hoa Province and was being transported to Hanoi for distribution.

Authorities said the goods were suspected of failing to meet food safety standards and lacked sufficient documentation regarding their quality and origin.

The consignment has been handed over to market surveillance authorities for further investigation.

The case comes amid a broader nationwide crackdown on food safety violations, with authorities stepping up inspections of food products of unclear origin and potentially unsafe goods entering the market.
