Ngo Tan Cu, chief executive of Central Power Corporation (EVNCPC), said peak system capacity reached 4,777 MW, while daily electricity consumption climbed to 100.5 million kWh.
The figure marked EVNCPC’s highest-ever daily electricity output and the first time power consumption in the central and Central Highlands regions exceeded 100 million kWh per day.
Compared with 2025, peak capacity rose 6.1 per cent from 4,503 MW, while daily electricity consumption increased 5.7 per cent from last year’s peak of 95 million kWh.
Cu attributed the surge mainly to prolonged hot weather, which sharply increased demand for cooling equipment.
On May 27, severe and extremely severe heat affected areas from Quang Tri to Danang, as well as eastern parts of Quang Ngai and Dak Lak provinces.
Temperatures reached 39.6 degrees Celsius in Dong Ha, 39.5 degrees in Tam Ky and 39.3 degrees in Tuy Hoa, according to EVNCPC.
The utility said it would continue closely monitoring electricity demand and adjust operations to ensure stable power supply across the region as hot weather was expected to persist.
