On May 25, Dantri/Dtinews Newspaper, in coordination with the Le Huu Trac National Burn Hospital, visited and presented a symbolic cheque worth VND 299.80 million (approximately USD 11,500) to the family of Lo Van Bang, born in 2001, from Na Sang Commune in Dien Bien Province.
The money was donated by Dantri/Dtinews readers through the newspaper’s charity fund and had already been transferred to the bank account of Kha Thi Quynh, Bang’s wife, to help cover treatment costs.

Previously, on April 13, Dantri had urgently provided the family with an initial VND 100 million (approximately USD 3,850) donation while Bang was being treated at the hospital.

Quynh said that, in addition to donations channelled through Dantri, the family had also received more than VND 500 million (approximately USD 19,200) directly from benefactors in Vietnam and abroad through personal transfers and support at the hospital.
In total, Bang’s family has so far received more than VND 900 million (approximately USD 34,600) in assistance.
After more than a month of intensive treatment, Bang has undergone several major surgeries. Doctors were ultimately forced to amputate both of his legs in order to save his life.
Hospital staff said areas of severe burns still require daily specialised treatment and care.

“There were times when I thought we would not survive this ordeal,” Quynh said emotionally. “Thanks to support from local authorities, Dantri readers, benefactors and the doctors and nurses, I still have hope to continue my husband’s treatment.”
She said Bang’s treatment currently costs around VND 10-20 million (approximately USD 385-770) per day. Although health insurance covers part of the expenses, the family still faces enormous financial pressure because the treatment process is expected to continue for a long time.
Quynh expressed gratitude to Dantri readers, donors and medical staff for accompanying and supporting the family throughout the difficult period.
“I do not know what to say other than my deepest thanks to Dantri, readers, benefactors and the doctors who have shown compassion for our family. Thanks to everyone, Bang has another chance to continue treatment,” she said.
Doctors said Bang would continue to require intensive care, infection prevention treatment, rehabilitation and other costly medical interventions in the coming months.
