Nearly 300 birds seized in Tay Ninh over unclear origin

Forestry officials in Tay Ninh Province have seized nearly 300 birds after a bird trading facility failed to provide documents proving their legal origin.

The Tay Ninh Forest Protection Department said on May 25 that inspectors, working with other authorities, discovered 295 birds of various species during an inspection of a bird trading business.

The inspection was carried out on May 22 at Phuong Nam Ornamental Birds facility in Thanh Hoa Commune, Tay Ninh Province.

Authorities found the facility keeping 295 birds from 19 species, including red-whiskered bulbuls, magpie robins and several other ornamental bird species.

At the time of inspection, the owner was unable to present documents verifying the legal origin of the birds as required under Vietnamese regulations.

Officials drew up a report and temporarily seized the birds for further investigation and handling.

In recent years, the Tay Ninh Forest Protection Department has intensified cooperation with other agencies to inspect and tackle illegal hunting, trading, transportation and captivity of wildlife.

Authorities urged businesses and individuals involved in breeding or trading ornamental birds and wildlife to comply fully with regulations on origin documentation, forest product management and traceability, while avoiding any involvement in illegal wildlife trade activities.
