On May 23, Dantri/Dtinews Newspaper coordinated with WellBeing Health Education Organisation to organise a drowning first aid training programme for more than 200 students, parents and teachers at Cao Bo Semi-boarding Primary and Secondary Ethnic School in Tuyen Quang Province.
During the programme, experts introduced participants to basic drowning prevention knowledge, methods for recognising signs of distress in water, techniques for safely rescuing victims and essential first aid procedures.
Students attentively followed demonstrations of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and rescue breathing techniques while actively participating in question and answer activities.
Many students were also able to practise on modern first aid mannequins equipped with sensors to evaluate rescue skills.
Tran Thanh Bao from the WellBeing Health Education Organisation said the programme aimed to help children live more safely while also equipping teachers with practical skills to support students in emergencies.
Nguyen Thi Thu Phuong, a teacher at the school, described the programme as highly practical for improving drowning prevention awareness and first aid knowledge among both teachers and students.
“With the nature of a mountainous school where students regularly live near rivers and streams, these skills are essential for protecting children’s safety,” Phuong said.
Alongside the training activities, Dantri also partnered with National Hospital for Tropical Diseases to conduct hepatitis B screening for around 500 students at the school.
Screening results identified 14 students infected with hepatitis B, while no hepatitis C cases were detected.
Doctors later provided guidance on health monitoring, specialist examinations and measures to prevent community transmission.
After the training and health checks, students participated in recreational activities including painting figurines and group games.
The programme also distributed practical gifts donated by sponsors and benefactors to local students.
On the same day, Dantri/Dtinews and the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases organised a specialised liver health consultation and general health advice programme for around 300 residents in Cao Bo Commune.
