The ceremony was held at Route 9 National Martyrs Cemetery in Quang Tri Province.
Also attending were Minister of Home Affairs Do Thanh Binh, Government Office Minister Dang Xuan Phong, Senior Lieutenant General Pham Hoai Nam, Deputy Minister of Defence, along with leaders from Hanoi, Quang Tri Province, representatives from the Lao provinces of Savannakhet Province and Khammouane Province, armed forces personnel and youth representatives.
The remains were recovered during the 2025 to 2026 dry season by Quang Tri Province Military Command teams conducting search operations in Savannakhet and Khammouane provinces in Laos.
At the ceremony, Le Van Bao, vice chairman of the Quang Tri provincial People’s Committee, said Lao authorities, local residents and Vietnamese search teams had overcome significant challenges to locate and repatriate the martyrs’ remains.
“Their sacrifice stands as a powerful symbol of the great special solidarity and strategic ties between Vietnam and Laos,” Bao said.
An honour guard escorted the remains to the burial area at Route 9 National Martyrs Cemetery.
Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and Senior Lieutenant General Pham Hoai Nam joined the procession carrying the remains to the burial area at Route 9 National Martyrs Cemetery.
Home Affairs Minister Do Thanh Binh and Government Office Chairman Dang Xuan Phong accompanied the remains to the burial site.
Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and other delegates offered incense in tribute at the burial area of Route 9 National Martyrs Cemetery.
Route 9 National Martyrs Cemetery, located in Dong Ha Ward, is the resting place of more than 10,000 Vietnamese soldiers, militia members and youth volunteers who fought and died along Route 9 and on the Laos battlefield during wartime.
