Chinese contractor joins design consultancy for HCM City Metro Line 4

A Chinese railway design institute will participate in preparing the feasibility study for Metro Line 4 in Ho Chi Minh City, connecting Dong Thanh and Hiep Phuoc.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction has granted a construction activity license to the GMDI, ARUP, TEDI SOUTH consortium to prepare the feasibility study report for Metro Line 4.

The consortium includes Guangzhou Metro Design & Research Institute Co., Ltd. (GMDI), a Chinese company headquartered in Guangzhou, alongside ARUP Vietnam Co., Ltd. and TEDI SOUTH.

Under the decision, the consortium will carry out the feasibility study package in accordance with the contractor selection result announced by Sovico Group on March 27.

Among the three firms, TEDI SOUTH, a member of the Transport Engineering Design Incorporated (TEDI), has participated in the design of several major transport projects in Vietnam, including the North-South high speed railway and metro lines Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien, Ben Thanh-Tham Luong and Ben Thanh- Thu Thiem.

ARUP Vietnam belongs to the UK based ARUP Group, an engineering and design consultancy with nearly 80 years of history. The company has recently worked on studies related to Ho Chi Minh City's railway network planning.

Meanwhile, GMDI previously took part in the design of Guangzhou’s metro system in China and also cooperated with TEDI SOUTH on the design of Metro Line 2 sections Ben Thanh-Tham Luong and Ben Thanh-Thu Thiem.

According to the master plan, Metro Line 4 will span about 45km, running from Dong Thanh in Hoc Mon through Tan Son Nhat Airport, Ben Thanh and Nguyen Huu Tho Street before ending at Hiep Phuoc Urban Area. The line is expected to serve as a key north-south transport corridor for Ho Chi Minh City.
