On the afternoon of May 19, Dantri reporters and leaders of Yen Hoa Commune in Ha Tinh Province visited and handed over VND 225,898,501 (approximately USD 8,700) to sisters Nguyen Thi Ha Vi, 19, and Nguyen Thi Mai Nhi, 18, from Ho Phuong Village.
The donation was raised through Dantri readers after the newspaper published an article about the sisters’ difficult circumstances.

The girls’ mother, Nguyen Thi Dao, born in 1976, died from a serious illness when Ha Vi was four and Mai Nhi was three.
Their father, Nguyen Trong Dung, born in 1969, worked various manual jobs to raise the two daughters despite severe financial hardship. In recent years, he developed diabetes and his health steadily deteriorated while medical expenses mounted.

“Last year I also wanted to go to university, but our circumstances did not allow it. I had to stop studying and work to help my father support my younger sister’s education,” Ha Vi said.
Another tragedy struck the family on March 26 this year.
That day, Ha Vi was working as a factory worker in Nghe An Province while Mai Nhi was attending school. When she returned home, Mai Nhi found her father lying motionless on the bed.
The student rushed to call neighbours for help and took him to hospital, but he did not survive.

Representing local authorities, Nguyen Van Hoang, vice chairman of the Yen Hoa Commune People’s Committee, praised Dantri’s continued efforts in connecting donors with disadvantaged families in Ha Tinh Province over many years.
“Following Dantri’s activities, we have seen many disadvantaged people receive support from readers for medical treatment, overcoming hardship and rebuilding their lives,” Hoang said.
“Today, another family in the commune has received substantial support, helping the sisters stabilise their lives and continue pursuing their education,” he added.
After the handover ceremony, local authorities and relatives accompanied Ha Vi to a bank to deposit the donation into a savings account for safekeeping.
