According to updated pricing sent to travel agents, Vietjet Air has raised charges for additional baggage purchased after ticket booking on both domestic and international routes, while Bamboo Airways has introduced higher rates during summer and Lunar New Year peak periods.

On domestic flights, baggage fee increases range from around 15 to 25 per cent depending on the package.
For Vietjet Air, a 20kg checked baggage package has risen from VND 200,000 to VND 250,000 (approximately USD 7.70-9.60), an increase of 25 per cent. The 30kg package climbed from VND 300,000 to VND 360,000 (approximately USD 11.60-13.90), while the 40kg option increased from VND 400,000 to VND 480,000 (approximately USD 15.40-18.50), both up 20 per cent. The prices exclude value added tax.
The airline has also increased fees for several ancillary services. Charges for oversized 20kg baggage rose from VND 450,000 to VND 540,000 (approximately USD 17.40-20.80), while priority carry-on services with an additional 2kg allowance increased from VND 230,000 to VND 280,000 (approximately USD 8.90-10.80).
Meanwhile, Bamboo Airways has adjusted domestic baggage pricing under two categories, “year round” and “summer and Lunar New Year peak season”.
During peak periods, Bamboo Airways increased domestic baggage fees by roughly 15.4 per cent across all packages. The 10kg package rose from VND 130,000 to VND 150,000 (approximately USD 5-5.80), the 20kg package from VND 260,000 to VND 300,000 (approximately USD 10-11.60), and the 60kg package from VND 780,000 to VND 900,000 (approximately USD 30-34.70).
According to Bamboo Airways, the summer peak season runs from May 20 to August 15 and from August 27 to September 2, 2026. The Lunar New Year peak period extends from late December 2025 to mid-March 2026.
Vietjet has also raised international baggage fees on several routes. For example, the 20kg package for Southeast Asian destinations increased from VND 480,000 to VND 580,000 (approximately USD 18.50-22.40), while routes to Hong Kong, Taiwan and China rose from VND 580,000 to VND 700,000 (approximately USD 22.40-27), both up by nearly 21 per cent.
A representative from a Ho Chi Minh City ticket agency said airlines in recent years have attempted to keep base ticket prices competitive to attract passengers. However, amid rising fuel and operational costs, many carriers have adjusted fares while also increasing revenue from ancillary services such as checked baggage, seat selection and onboard meals.
Travel agencies noted that baggage fees often fluctuate seasonally, with significant increases during summer holidays and Lunar New Year when travel demand surges.
Meanwhile, a recent report from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said Jet A1 aviation fuel prices on the international market have remained high due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
At certain times, Jet A1 prices in Asia reached around USD 214-216 per barrel, continuing to place heavy pressure on airline operating costs.
The authority said fuel price volatility remains one of the key factors driving higher aviation expenses and affecting air ticket prices in recent years.
