Local authorities in Hoa Phu Commune said the animal was voluntarily surrendered by a local man, who discovered it crawling into his yard on the night of May 18.

The man, identified as Y Sak Ly, said he spotted the pangolin while preparing to go frog hunting after rain.
“I had never seen a pangolin in real life before. I recognised it from television reports and knew it was a rare animal that needed protection,” he said.
Police and forest rangers are completing procedures to return the pangolin to its natural habitat.
Local officials praised the resident’s actions, saying the voluntary handover helped raise public awareness about wildlife conservation.
