The species belongs to Group IB, Vietnam’s highest protection category for rare and endangered wildlife.

Authorities said patrols and monitoring had been strengthened in areas where the animals were detected to ensure their safety.

Forest rangers have also tightened controls on people and vehicles entering the area and removed traps set for illegal hunting.

Officials described the sighting as an encouraging development for biodiversity conservation at Yok Don National Park in Dak Lak Province.
