Under the new system, passengers who purchase individual tickets and make online payments will be able to change tickets directly through the railway operator’s official booking website instead of visiting stations in person.
The online exchange feature follows the earlier rollout of online ticket refunds and is expected to reduce waiting times and ease pressure at ticket counters during peak travel periods.

All ticket changes will require OTP verification sent via registered phone numbers or email addresses to ensure transaction security.
Vietnam Railways said tickets must be exchanged at least 24 hours before departure and each ticket can only be changed once. Passengers may change travel dates and departure times but cannot alter personal information or routes.
The exchange fee is set at VND 20,000 (USD 0.76) per transaction, while passengers on the Hanoi-Haiphong route will pay VND 10,000.
Passengers who bought tickets directly at railway stations will still need to visit stations in person with identification documents to complete ticket changes.
