Fire erupts at Ly Son guesthouse

A fire at a guesthouse in Ly Son Special Zone in the central province of Quang Ngai, destroyed two rooms and causing damages for tourists.

According to an initial report from the An Binh Border Guard Control Station, the blaze broke out at around 7.45 pm on Wednesday at the guesthouse in Bac An Binh hamlet.

Border guards, local militia forces and residents responded to the scene, but the fire spread rapidly and could not be contained due to a lack of firefighting equipment.

The blaze was fully extinguished at around 8.15 pm.

At the time of the fire, the five tourists staying in the two rooms had gone out, so no casualties were reported. However, the blaze completely destroyed the two guest rooms, causing an estimated VND 200 million (USD 7,700) in damage, while tourists’ belongings worth around VND 115 million (USD 4,400) were also lost.

Authorities said the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit, destroying two guest rooms made of wood, aluminum-framed glass and nipa palm roofing, along with furniture and decorative items.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.

Ly Son lies about 17 nautical miles off the mainland and covers roughly 10 square kilometres. It is known for its volcanic landscapes, pristine beaches and seafood, particularly its famous garlic. The island attracts around 250,000 visitors each year.
