Hanoi seizes 220 wild birds of unclear origin

Authorities in Hanoi have seized 220 wild birds from three ornamental bird shops after owners failed to provide documents proving their legal origin.

The inspections were carried out at bird trading establishments on Tang Bat Ho Street as part of a nationwide crackdown on wildlife and migratory bird violations launched by the Ministry of Public Security.

The seized birds were identified as chim di da, a species listed under Vietnam’s forest wildlife management regulations.

Authorities confiscated 80 birds from one business in Tay Ho Ward, and 70 birds each from two other establishments in Hoang Mai and Hong Ha wards.

At the time of inspection, none of the shop owners could provide legal paperwork for the birds, authorities said.

The birds were temporarily seized for further investigation and handling in accordance with the law.

The crackdown forms part of broader efforts to combat illegal wildlife trade and raise public awareness about biodiversity and wildlife protection.
