Chairman of the Dien Bien People’s Committee Le Van Luong signed a decision approving both the investment policy and investor for the project, officially named the Dien Bien Phu Cultural and Historical Tourism Cable Car Complex.
The approved investor is Fansipan Sapa Cable Car Tourism Services Co., Ltd.
The project aims to boost tourism by leveraging the area’s natural and historical assets while preserving the Dien Bien Phu Victory special national relic site.
Authorities said the project would feature exhibition and experiential spaces focused on historical education, alongside commercial and entertainment services, with the aim of turning Dien Bien Phu into a key cultural and historical tourism destination in northern Vietnam.
The development is also expected to improve access between historical sites in the mountainous area through a cable car system and supporting infrastructure.
The project will cover 35.35 hectares in Muong Phang and Pu Nhi communes, including areas for departure and arrival stations, the cable corridor and transport infrastructure.
Around 6.6 hectares, or 18.67 per cent of the project area, including roads, green spaces and water surfaces, will be handed over to local authorities for public management after construction.
The remaining land will be used for tourism and commercial facilities with a projected capacity of around 15,000 visitors per day.
The project is expected to take five years to complete from the date land is allocated or leased to the investor, with an operational term of 70 years.
Authorities also instructed the investor to comply fully with regulations on land, environment and construction, and said it would bear legal responsibility for the accuracy of the project’s declared investment capital.
