Four rescued from Hanoi's Old Quarter porridge shop blaze

Firefighters rescued four people trapped in a late-night blaze at a porridge shop in Hanoi’s Old Quarter.

According to Hanoi police, the indicent occurred at around 11.19 pm on May 5 at the porridge shop at 5 Hang Voi Street in Hoan Kiem Ward.

At the scene, firefighters determined the blaze had broken out on the ground floor, producing heavy smoke and toxic fumes, with a risk of spreading to nearby homes.

Rescue crews using breathing apparatus entered the upper floors of the adjoining building to evacuate those trapped, while other teams tackled the blaze from multiple directions to prevent it spreading.

The fire was fully extinguished by around 11.45 pm with support from local authorities, ward police and residents.

No fatalities were reported, and the blaze was contained before it could spread to neighbouring properties or upper floors of the building.

All four trapped victims were rescued safely and handed over to medical workers and local police for health checks and monitoring.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
