The longest of the four is the 42-km Thu Thiem-Long Thanh line, linking eastern Ho Chi Minh City with Long Thanh International Airport in neighbouring Dong Nai Province. Designed for speeds of up to 120 kph, the 20-station route is set to break ground before June 30 and be completed by 2030.
The city plans to begin work on the first phase of Metro Line 6, which will run from Tan Son Nhat International Airport to Phu Huu. The project is in the feasibility-study stage and is due for completion in 2030.
Two metro lines linking the city with neighbouring Binh Duong Province are also expected to begin construction this year.
The first is a 31.6-km elevated line linking Binh Duong New City with Suoi Tien, connecting the provincial administrative centre to Ben Xe Suoi Tien Station on Metro Line 1. The project is due for completion in 2030.
The second is a 24.2-km line linking Thu Dau Mot with Ho Chi Minh City, connecting Metro Line 1’s S5 Station in Binh Duong to Hiep Binh Station on the planned Metro Line 3. Construction is expected to begin in 2026, or by early 2027 at the latest, with completion targeted for 2032.
The four projects are part of Ho Chi Minh City’s broader plan to prioritise six metro lines for investment between 2026 and 2030.
Three metro projects have already broken ground, comprising of the Ben Thanh-Tham Luong section of Metro Line 2, which is due for completion before 2030; the Ben Thanh-Can Gio line, scheduled to enter service in 2028; and the Ben Thanh-Thiem section of Metro Line 2, targeted for completion in 2030.
