According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, Hangar 2, part of component project 4 and invested by Vietnam Airlines, is behind schedule.
The hangar has an estimated investment of VND 645 billion (approximately USD 25 million) and will be built on a 3.9-hectare site in zone E-01 within the airport complex. Although the contract was signed in August 2025 with a construction timeline of 16.5 months, the project has yet to commence and is currently undergoing proposed adjustments to its scale.
Several other components under the same project are also delayed. Cargo Terminal 2, the express cargo terminal and associated logistics warehouse systems, all under Vietnam Airlines’ investment, have not yet started construction.
Earlier, the aviation authority and Vietnam Airlines signed contracts for these projects on October 1, 2025, with an expected construction period of 15 months.

The Civil Aviation Authority said it has conducted multiple site inspections, held meetings and issued directives urging the investor to accelerate progress. However, delays persist with no significant improvement.
Given the current pace, authorities assess that completing these facilities in time for synchronized operation with Long Thanh Airport before December 31, 2026 is unlikely. This could affect the overall efficiency and integrated operation of the entire project.
The authority has proposed that the Ministry of Construction lead discussions with investors to expedite implementation and ensure contractual commitments are met. It also recommended reporting to the prime minister and the project steering committee to enforce accountability.
Previously, Hangar 1 broke ground in June 2025 and is expected to become operational around July or August. Meanwhile, Vietjet is developing Hangar 3 and Hangar 4, scheduled for completion in October.
Phase 1 of Long Thanh International Airport consists of four component projects, including government agency headquarters, air traffic management facilities, passenger terminals and runways, and ground service infrastructure such as cargo terminals, aviation logistics zones, aircraft maintenance hangars and airline operation centres.
