Quang Tri bakery closed after suspected food poisoning cases

A bakery in Quang Tri Province has been temporarily shut down after dozens of people, mostly pupils, were hospitalised with suspected food poisoning linked to banh mi.

Authorities in Tan Lap Commune said on May 1 they had ordered T.T. bakery in Tan Son Village to suspend operations following the incident. The shop has been closed since April 30 while investigations continue.

Local officials said the business held a household registration certificate and had signed a food safety compliance pledge. Relevant food samples have been collected for testing.

Huong Hoa Regional General Hospital reported that 18 additional patients were admitted on May 1 with suspected food poisoning symptoms, bringing the total number of cases to 64.

Doctors said most patients were in stable condition, with no severe cases requiring transfer to higher level hospitals. Some patients have already been discharged.

Patients treated between April 29 and May 1 showed symptoms including fever, diarrhoea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fatigue and dehydration. Most were aged between 11 and 15.

Officials are continuing to investigate the cause of the suspected outbreak.
