The special aircraft carrying Takaichi and a high level delegation landed at Noi Bai Airport at 6.15 pm.

The visit is being made at the invitation of Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and will run from May 1 to May 3, according to the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry.

Welcoming the delegation at the airport were senior Vietnamese officials, including Dang Xuan Phong, head of the Government Office, and Nguyen Minh Vu, permanent deputy foreign minister, along with representatives from relevant ministries and agencies.

The Japanese delegation includes senior officials from the cabinet office, national security secretariat, and multiple ministries covering foreign affairs, defence, trade and infrastructure, as well as ambassador Ito Naoki.

Takaichi became Japan’s 104th prime minister and its first female leader in October 2025. This marks her first visit to Vietnam as head of government.

Following her arrival, the delegation travelled by motorcade to central Hanoi.
An official welcoming ceremony hosted by Le Minh Hung is scheduled to take place at the Government Office headquarters.
