Ba Den Mountain tightens climbing rules in rainy season

Climbing regulations at Ba Den Mountain, Tay Ninh Province, have been tightened for the rainy season amid increased risks of slippery trails, landslides and accidents.

Management of the Ba Den Mountain National Tourist Area said on April 30 that weather conditions in the area had deteriorated with the onset of seasonal rains, posing hazards for visitors attempting to reach the summit.

Under new rules, hikers using the popular Cot Dien route must register personal information at the So Ri checkpoint before departure and follow only their registered route, where patrol and control teams are stationed.

Climbing is permitted daily from 6 am to 11 am, after which no new departures are allowed to reduce the risk of visitors becoming stranded after dark.

Open flames are prohibited and overnight camping in the forest is banned.

Children under 12 and people with a history of cardiovascular disease are not permitted to climb.

Visitors are required to ensure they are physically fit, carry appropriate safety equipment and assess weather conditions before departure.

Authorities advised hikers to halt their ascent in the event of heavy rain, slippery conditions, strong winds or lightning.

Management said several recent incidents involved visitors straying from designated routes onto unofficial trails, resulting in lost hikers and accidents.

In 2025, the tourist area suspended mountain-climbing activities for more than two months because of adverse weather, landslide risks and falling rocks.

Ba Den Mountain, the highest peak in southern Vietnam, is one of the region’s best-known pilgrimage and tourism sites.
