Trieu Ton Nhat, from Cao Bang Province, was admitted to the National Burn Hospital in Hanoi after being electrocuted while repairing a water pipe on March 28.
The electric shock caused him to fall from a second-floor corrugated roof, leaving him with extensive injuries.
Doctors said Nhat suffered burns to 38 per cent of his body, including deep burns over 6 per cent, mainly to his face, torso, left arm and both legs.
He also sustained a traumatic brain injury with an epidural haematoma and underwent emergency cranial surgery before being transferred to the burn hospital.
Doctors said his neurological condition had stabilised temporarily, but he remained in critical condition due to open wounds, skin necrosis and a high risk of severe infection.
Nhat is expected to require months of hospital treatment, multiple surgeries to remove necrotic tissue and skin graft procedures.
Despite having health insurance, his family faces substantial medical costs because many specialised drugs, advanced wound dressings and intravenous nutritional treatments are not fully covered.
Nhat’s family has already borrowed more than VND 150 million (USD 5,700) for his treatment, while neighbours and local authorities have donated a further VND 50 million.
The funds, however, have largely been exhausted during the initial phase of treatment.
Nhat, who belongs to the Dao ethnic minority, had worked various manual jobs to support his wife and two young children before the accident.
The patient pleaded for support to survive and return to his family.
“I want to live to raise my children,” he said. “They are still so young.”
