Hue plans USD 3 million night lighting project for Imperial Citadel

Hue City plans to invest more than VND 80 billion (around USD 3 million) in an artistic lighting project for its Imperial Citadel and surrounding heritage areas.

According to Vice Chairman of the Hue People’s Committee Tran Huu Thuy Giang, the city was studying the project and had assigned the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre as investor.

The lighting scheme will focus on the interior of the Imperial City, 23/8 Street in front of Ngo Mon Gate and roads surrounding the citadel.

Authorities are also considering synchronised lighting across the wider area to enhance the city’s night-time landscape and improve the visual appeal of the heritage complex after dark.

Separately, Hue is planning an artistic lighting project along both banks of the Perfume River, from the city centre to the Van Thanh-Vo Thanh relic area and the opposite bank near Nguyen Hoang Bridge.

The riverfront project may include musical fountains and 3D mapping displays to create a distinctive night-time landscape.

The upgraded lighting infrastructure is also expected to support regular riverside performances, cultural events and immersive live shows.

Planned future programmes include recurring culinary-themed performances centred on Hue beef noodle soup, alongside an annual electronic dance music festival being developed with international event organisers.
