The 44.6-km extension, expected to run through both Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai, will be built under a build-transfer (BT) contract and funded through a combination of land assets and state budget resources.

The route will include a 7.4-km section from Suoi Tien Station to Dong Nai’s administrative centre and a 37.2-km section onward to Long Thanh International Airport, with stations, a depot and related infrastructure to be constructed along the line.
Land clearance and compensation costs, estimated at VND 4.32 trillion, will be implemented as a separate publicly funded project.
Authorities said construction is planned for the 2026-2030 period.
The extension is intended to improve regional connectivity, provide a direct metro link between central Ho Chi Minh City and Long Thanh International airport, ease pressure on overloaded highways including National Highways 1A and 51, and support economic growth in key urban areas such as Bien Hoa and Long Thanh.
