Second victim dies after coach carrying 25 plunges into ravine

At least two people have died and five others were injured after a coach carrying 25 passengers plunged into a deep ravine in Son La Province on April 26.

According to Son La provincial police, the accident happened at around 10.30 am when the passenger coach was travelling through Van Ho Commune and fell about 100 metres down a ravine.

A 39-year-old woman died at the scene, while another woman, aged 42, died while receiving emergency treatment at hospital. Five other injured passengers are being treated at Mai Chau General Hospital in Phu Tho Province.

The coach was severely damaged in the crash.

Initial findings by police suggest the accident was caused by the steep road, multiple sharp bends and the narrow roadway, combined with the driver being unfamiliar with the route and losing control of the vehicle.

Authorities in Son La are continuing to investigate the incident.
