Do Van Hung, a resident of Khanh Trung Commune, discovered the monkey in his family’s yard at around 9 am on April 24 and alerted local police after recognising it as protected wildlife.

Authorities later identified the animal as an Assamese macaque (Macaca assamensis), a species listed in Group IIB of Vietnam’s protected rare and endangered forest animals.
The male macaque, weighing about 8 kg, was handed over to wildlife rescue authorities for further handling in accordance with the law.
