Vietnam delivered a dominant performance against Malaysia at Gelora Delta Stadium, confirming their superiority and lifting the trophy in convincing fashion.

The young Vietnamese side started aggressively from the opening whistle, pushing high up the pitch and putting constant pressure on Malaysia’s defence. Although Malaysia sat deep to defend, they could not prevent an early breakthrough.

In the 11th minute, from a corner on the right flank, Quy Vuong positioned himself smartly before firing a decisive shot from near the penalty spot into the right corner of the net, giving Vietnam a 1-0 lead.

After taking the lead, Vietnam played with growing confidence and controlled the match completely. Malaysia struggled to build attacks and created almost no clear chances.

Just as the first half appeared set to end with a narrow advantage, Vietnam struck again in stoppage time. In the fourth added minute, Van Duong broke down the left wing, entered the penalty area and produced a precise finish that clipped the inside of the post before going in, doubling the lead to 2-0.

Malaysia were forced to push forward after the break, but before they could make an impact, they conceded a third goal.

In the 54th minute, Tri Dung raced down the right flank and delivered a low cross for Van Duong to finish at the far post, completing his brace. The assistant referee initially raised the flag for offside, but after a VAR review, the goal was awarded.

For the remainder of the match, Vietnam reduced the tempo while maintaining full control. Malaysia were unable to create any meaningful response and at times were forced back into deep defence to avoid conceding more.

The 3-0 victory officially crowned Vietnam as champions of the 2026 ASEAN U17 Boys’ Championship, marking the fourth time the country has won the regional U17 title after previous triumphs in 2006, 2010 and 2017.
