Ho Chi Minh City hospitals offer free eye surgeries for patients

Hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City are expanding free healthcare programmes, including cataract surgeries, to support disadvantaged patients.

On April 23, representatives of Tu Du Hospital said its second facility in Can Gio Commune had partnered with Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital to provide free cataract surgeries for patients in difficult circumstances.

A total of 100 patients will undergo screening, necessary tests and same day artificial lens replacement surgeries at no cost.

“Each successful surgery not only restores vision but also brings hope and a chance for patients to live more independently,” a hospital representative said.

The hospital added that similar free medical initiatives will continue to be maintained and expanded.

Meanwhile, Thu Duc General Hospital has launched the Linh Xuan Clinic in coordination with local authorities and partners to provide healthcare for low income residents not covered by existing support policies.

The clinic will offer regular check ups and free medication from Monday to Friday each week.

Vu Tri Thanh, director of Thu Duc General Hospital, said the model reflects a humanitarian approach, combining efforts from authorities, healthcare providers and social organisations to reduce costs and improve early access to medical services.

On April 22, the Tuy Tam Linh Xuan Clinic was also introduced at the ward health station, further expanding healthcare support channels.

On the same occasion, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Linh Xuan Ward, together with donors, distributed 200 health insurance cards to disadvantaged households, each valid for one year.

Additionally, 800 vouchers for medical consultations and medication were provided, offering support of VND 300,000 (approximately USD 12) per visit for costs not covered by insurance.
