Vietnam to build museum showcasing Truong Sa artefacts

A new museum near Cam Ranh Bay will display rare artefacts and documents about Truong Sa, aiming to affirm maritime sovereignty and promote national pride.

Authorities in Khanh Hoa Province announced that construction of the Truong Sa Museum will begin on April 29, marking the 51st anniversary of the liberation of the Truong Sa archipelago and the reunification of Vietnam.

Nguyen Thanh Ha, vice chairman of the Khanh Hoa Province People’s Committee, said the project will be located near the Gac Ma soldiers memorial site, serving as a space to exhibit valuable artefacts and historical materials related to Truong Sa.

The museum is intended not only as a cultural and historical venue but also as a symbolic structure reinforcing Vietnam’s sovereignty over its seas and islands, while fostering patriotism and national pride.

Built on a site of more than 1.7 hectares along Cam Ranh Bay, the museum will face the sea to the east and border the memorial site and Nguyen Tat Thanh road to the west, with surrounding tourism areas to the north and south.

The structure will cover nearly 3,900 square metres, comprising three above ground floors and one basement. Its architectural design features three extensions stretching from the mainland towards Truong Sa and the East Sea.

The project is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2028.

So far, the Khanh Hoa Province Museum has collected 1,154 images, documents and artefacts related to the Truong Sa archipelago, which will be displayed once the museum is completed.
