The animal was discovered by a local resident after it strayed into his yard, damaging fruit trees and threatening domestic animals. He captured the monkey and kept it in a metal cage before reporting the incident to authorities.
It was later identified it as a red-faced monkey weighing about 7-8 kg, classified under Group IIB in Vietnam’s list of rare and endangered forest species requiring protection.
Local police worked with forest rangers to complete handover procedures and release the animal back into a deep forest area of the national park.
Authorities urged residents to promptly report sightings or accidental captures of wild animals, especially protected species, and warned against illegal captivity or trade, which can result in legal penalties.
