HCM City studies Rung Sac Road expansion plan

Ho Chi Minh City has tasked a private firm with studying the expansion of Rung Sac Road and a new connecting section to support growing traffic demand in Can Gio.

The city’s People’s Committee approved a proposal for Can Gio Urban Tourism Joint Stock Company to prepare an investment policy report for upgrading the road and building a link between Road 15B and Can Gio Bridge under a build transfer model.

Authorities stressed that assigning the study does not grant the company investor status, with selection to follow existing legal procedures.

The company will fund the research itself without using the city budget and must ensure compliance with all legal requirements.

The report is to be completed within 12 months. If it is not approved or finished on time, it will expire and the company will bear all related costs and risks.

The Department of Finance has been assigned to receive and assess the report before submitting it for approval, while the Department of Construction will guide and support the preparation process.

Other agencies and local authorities have been instructed to coordinate to ensure quality, progress and compliance.

The proposed upgrade would expand Rung Sac Road to 10 lanes, including eight for motor vehicles and two parallel lanes, with a total width of 60 metres.

The plan comes as traffic demand is expected to rise sharply with the development of the Can Gio International Transshipment Port, new urban areas and a future metro line, in line with the commune’s development strategy to 2030.
