Hail and storms hit parts of Thanh Hoa

Hailstorms and strong winds swept across several areas of Thanh Hoa Province, with local authorities assessing damage to homes, schools and crops.

Local officials in Hoang Giang Commune said the extreme weather struck on the night of April 17, bringing thunderstorms, lightning and hail. Initial reports confirmed the presence of hail, with inspections under way to determine any damage to property and agriculture.

Similar conditions were recorded in Ham Rong Ward and Dong Tien Ward, where residents reported sudden storms accompanied by large hailstones.

A resident in Ham Rong ward said the hail began at around 11.30 pm on April 17 and lasted several minutes. It was the first time she had witnessed such intense hail, with stones large enough to prompt her to call her children indoors for safety.

According to local authorities in Ham Rong, the storm damaged two schools, including roof sections torn off Thieu Duong Secondary School. Boundary walls at several homes collapsed, while strong winds flattened parts of local crops.

Officials said damage assessments are ongoing to enable timely recovery efforts following the extreme weather event.
