The plan, released by the municipal government, forms part of a broader investment promotion programme aimed at expanding the city’s urban rail network.
Key projects include Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh-An Ha), a 21.1-km route costing about VND 86.5 trillion linking the centre with western districts. Metro Line 2, covering the Ben Thanh-Thu Thiem and Tham Luong-Cu Chi sections, will span nearly 51 km with investment of around VND 73.2 trillion, boosting development in the north-west and access to the Cu Chi tunnels.

Regional connections are also planned, including routes linking the city with Binh Duong, Thu Dau Mot, and the Vung Tau-Ba Ria-Phu My corridor.
Other major lines include Metro Line 3 (Hiep Binh Phuoc-An Ha), nearly 46 km, and Metro Line 4 (Dong Thanh-Hiep Phuoc), over 47 km, both designed to connect outlying areas with the city centre.
Metro Line 6, an inner ring route of about 54 km with estimated investment exceeding VND 211 trillion, is expected to link Tan Son Nhat International Airport with the future Long Thanh international airport via connections with other lines.
Meanwhile, the Thu Thiem-Long Thanh line, nearly 42 km long, will provide a direct rail link between the city centre and Long Thanh International Airport, supporting development in the eastern region.
Officials said the projects aim to ease congestion, enhance regional connectivity and drive long-term urban growth.
