Airfares surge as holiday travel demand climbs

Airfares on key domestic routes have surged as demand rises ahead of the Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day and April 30, May Day holidays, with some flights reporting occupancy above 90 per cent.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said high load factors were concentrated on routes to popular destinations, including Ho Chi Minh City to Tuy Hoa, Con Dao, and Hanoi to Chu Lai and Dong Hoi.

During the April 25 to April 29 holiday period, economy class fares on the Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City route range from about VND 3.6 million to VND 4.2 million (approximately USD 140 to USD 164), depending on the airline.

Vietnam Airlines and Bamboo Airways listed the highest fares at around VND 3.9 million to VND 4.2 million (approximately USD 152 to USD 164), while Vietjet Air offered lower prices from VND 3.2 million to VND 3.9 million (approximately USD 125 to USD 152). Vietravel Airlines fares ranged from about VND 3.3 million to VND 3.8 million (approximately USD 129 to USD 148).

These prices are comparable to those during the 2026 Lunar New Year holiday and represent an increase of 8 to 10 per cent year on year.

On the Ho Chi Minh City to Danang route, one way fares on April 29 range from about VND 2.7 million to VND 3.2 million (approximately USD 105 to USD 125) with Vietnam Airlines, while Vietjet Air and Bamboo Airways offer tickets from VND 1.8 million to VND 2.6 million (approximately USD 70 to USD 101).

Fares on the Hanoi to Danang route range from about VND 2.6 million to VND 3.8 million (approximately USD 101 to USD 148) with Vietnam Airlines, while other carriers offer prices between VND 2.1 million and VND 2.9 million (approximately USD 82 to USD 113).

For the Hanoi to Phu Quoc route, Vietnam Airlines lists fares of about VND 4.8 million (approximately USD 187), while Vietjet Air tickets range from VND 3 million to VND 4.6 million (approximately USD 117 to USD 179).

The Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc route shows fares from about VND 1.8 million to VND 3 million (approximately USD 70 to USD 117), while the Hanoi to Cam Ranh route ranges from VND 3.5 million to VND 4.2 million (approximately USD 136 to USD 164).

Return flights from tourist destinations to major cities have also seen sharp increases toward the end of the holiday.

On May 3, fares on the Cam Ranh to Hanoi route reached about VND 3.9 million to VND 4.2 million (approximately USD 152 to USD 164) with Vietjet Air, while many economy class tickets on other airlines were sold out.

From Cam Ranh to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietjet Air fares ranged from VND 2 million to VND 2.3 million (approximately USD 78 to USD 90), while Vietnam Airlines listed prices from VND 2.6 million to VND 3.1 million (approximately USD 101 to USD 121).

On the Phu Quoc to Hanoi route on May 3, most economy tickets were sold out. For flights to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Airlines fares ranged from VND 2.1 million to VND 3 million (approximately USD 82 to USD 117), while other carriers offered tickets from about VND 1.9 million to VND 2.3 million (approximately USD 74 to USD 90).
