Dong Nai to reclaim land for metro link to Long Thanh airport

Dong Nai Province has planned to reclaim nearly 200 hectares of land for a metro extension linking Long Thanh International Airport.

The project will extend the Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro line by about 44.6 km from Tan Van to Dong Nai’s administrative centre and the airport, passing through several localities including Bien Hoa, Nhon Trach and Long Thanh.

Land surveys and asset assessments are scheduled to begin in April to determine compensation, resettlement and support costs. Total investment is estimated at VND 60.3 trillion (USD 2.3 billion), including about VND 4.3 trillion for land clearance.

The line will use urban MRT technology and is planned for implementation between 2025 and 2029 under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.

Provincial authorities said the project is key to strengthening links between Tan Son Nhat International Airport and Long Thanh International Airport, which is expected to share passenger and cargo traffic once operational.

The government has approved the project in principle under expedited procedures, citing urgent demand for improved transport connections in the region.
