Thanh Hoa Police seize over 2,300 guns, dozens of bombs and mines

Police in Thanh Hoa Province have confiscated more than 2,300 guns and dozens of explosive devices over the past year as part of a crackdown on illegal weapons.

Authorities in Thanh Hoa Province said on April 15 that they had advised the provincial administration to issue multiple directives to enforce the Law on the Management and Use of Weapons, Explosives and Support tools.

Police also coordinated public campaigns encouraging residents to surrender weapons through initiatives such as exchanging firearms or explosives for fire extinguishers or gifts.

As a result, from early 2025 to the end of January 2026, authorities recovered more than 2,300 firearms, 2,520 rounds of ammunition, 39 bombs, mines and warheads, nearly 68 kg of explosives, as well as thousands of rudimentary weapons and support tools.

In addition, police detected and handled 162 cases involving 323 individuals, and initiated legal proceedings in 142 cases against 288 suspects linked to offences including illegal possession and use of weapons, causing injury and public disorder.
