On April 12, authorities in Quang Ninh Province, in coordination with Vingroup and officials from Hanoi, Haiphong and Bac Ninh Province, held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Hanoi-Quang Ninh high-speed railway.

The line will span 120.2 km, running through four localities: Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Haiphong and Quang Ninh. It will be built to double track standards with a 1,435 mm gauge and full electrification.
Total investment is estimated at more than USD 5.6 billion, excluding land clearance costs. The project is being developed by VinSpeed High Speed Rail Investment and Development JSC, a subsidiary of Vingroup.
The railway is designed for a maximum speed of 350 km/h, although speeds will be limited to 120 km/h within Hanoi to suit urban operating conditions.

Once completed, the line is expected to reduce travel time between the two destinations from more than two hours to around 23 minutes.

The route will start at Co Loa Station in Dong Anh Commune, within the Vietnam Exposition Centre, and end at Ha Long Station in Tuan Chau Ward.

Three intermediate stations will be located in Gia Binh, Ninh Xa and Yen Tu, while a depot will be built at the Ha Long terminus for maintenance and operations.

The project will use a new generation of high-speed trains and advanced signalling systems supplied by Siemens Mobility, with technology transfer planned during implementation.
The line is expected to enter commercial operation in 2028.
