Authorities in Cam Lo Commune said on April 13 they received the animals after they were voluntarily surrendered by members of the public.
At around 8.30 pm on April 12, Le Thanh Tung and a friend found the two pangolins by the roadside near the Cam Lo-La Son Expressway. The animals had a combined weight of more than 4 kilogrammes.
Recognising them as protected wildlife, Tung contacted authorities to arrange their handover.
The pangolins have since been transferred to the Cam Lo-Dong Ha forest protection unit for temporary care while procedures are completed for their release in line with regulations.
Pangolins are classified as endangered and are listed in group IB under Vietnam Red Data Book, placing them under the highest level of protection.
