According to the Vietnam Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers, combined sales of five major members, Honda Vietnam, Piaggio Vietnam, Suzuki Vietnam, SYM Vietnam and Yamaha Motor Vietnam, reached 729,121 units in the first quarter of 2026, up 8.3 per cent year on year.
However, dealers in HCM City said demand weakened significantly from March as fuel prices increased, with the slowdown expected to continue into April.
Retailers said consumers are increasingly shifting to electric motorbikes, with sales at some outlets rising three to four fold since early March.

Three newly launched battery swapping models from VinFast have frequently sold out, with customers required to place deposits and wait several weeks for delivery.
The models have proved popular among ride hailing drivers as battery swaps take just two to three minutes, compared with hours for charging. Individual buyers are also drawn by convenience and fewer concerns over battery safety and lifespan.
VinFast said it has received more than 135,000 orders nationwide and delivered 93,000 vehicles so far, while ramping up production to fulfil more than 40,000 outstanding orders.
A company representative said current output, though at record levels, still falls short of strong market demand, with efforts under way to optimise supply chains.
