According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visit will be made at the invitation of General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping and his spouse.

Relations between Vietnam and China have maintained positive momentum in recent years, achieving notable progress. In 2025, marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties established on January 18, 1950, high-level strategic exchanges intensified, with an unprecedented frequency of visits between senior leaders.
Since early 2026, both sides have continued to maintain high-level contacts through flexible formats, including exchanges of congratulatory messages marking the 76th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
Economic, trade, investment and tourism cooperation has also delivered strong results. In 2025, China remained Vietnam’s largest trading partner, while Vietnam was China’s largest trading partner in ASEAN and its fourth-largest globally by country, after the United States, South Korea and Japan.
Bilateral trade reached USD 256.4 billion in 2025, up 24.8 per cent year on year. Vietnam’s exports totalled USD 70.4 billion, rising 14.8 per cent, while imports reached USD 186 billion, up 29 per cent.
In the first two months of 2026, China continued to be Vietnam’s top trading partner, with total trade of USD 66.7 billion, an increase of 30.2 per cent. Exports rose 32.5 per cent to USD 17.4 billion, while imports climbed 29.4 per cent to USD 49.3 billion.
In investment, China ranked second in 2025 with total registered capital of USD 5.96 billion, up 33.4 per cent, behind Singapore. In the first two months of 2026, it ranked third with USD 807.46 million, down 9.6 per cent, after Singapore and South Korea.
Tourism flows have also rebounded strongly. Vietnam welcomed 5.28 million Chinese visitors in 2025, up 41.3 per cent, accounting for 25 per cent of total international arrivals and ranking first among source markets.
In the first two months of 2026, Vietnam received about 922,582 visitors from China, representing 19.7 per cent of total international arrivals and ranking second after South Korea.
