Vessel KN475 assisted and towed the Quang Ngai-registered boat QNg 90251 TS, which had suffered engine failure while operating at sea.

The vessel, captained by Nguyen Duy Thanh, 49, from Quang Ngai Province, had departed Son Can Port on March 3 for a squid fishing trip with 36 crew members on board.

While operating southwest of An Bang Island in the Spratly Islands off Khanh Hoa Province, the boat lost manoeuvrability at about 2 pm after its engine broke down.

Crew members were unable to repair the fault and issued a distress call via Nha Trang coastal radio.

KN475 was dispatched at 8 pm on April 4 and reached the scene at 12.30 am the following day, sending a team aboard to assist. All crew members were reported to be in stable condition.

Technical inspection identified a failure in the high-pressure fuel pump control rack, which could not be repaired at sea.

At 8 am on April 5, KN475 began towing the vessel to Da Tay A Island in the Spratly Islands for further handling, with arrival expected later the same day.

The operation was completed safely and in accordance with procedures, highlighting the fisheries force’s role in supporting offshore fishing activities.
