The Vam Cong Industrial Park, covering nearly 200 hectares, broke ground on March 30 in the south-eastern gateway area of Long Xuyen.
The project is located near the western North-South expressway corridor and the Chau Doc-Can Tho-Soc Trang Expressway, with direct links to My Thoi Port. The location is expected to support cargo transport to Ho Chi Minh City, Tran De Port and other major economic centres.
The industrial park is designed to attract high-tech industries, food processing, agricultural and fisheries processing, logistics, electrical and electronics manufacturing, and information technology. It is expected to create about 7,800 jobs.
Nguyen Anh Tuan, deputy chief executive of T&T Group, said the project had been planned as a 21st-century economic model combining ecology and high technology. Nearly a quarter of the site will be set aside for green space and water features to support sustainable production.
Ho Van Mung, chairman of the An Giang People’s Committee, said the park would provide a new growth driver for the province, create jobs for local workers and help attract additional secondary investors once it becomes operational.
Following its merger with Kien Giang, An Giang Province now has five operating industrial parks, along with several other projects that have already received investment policy approval.
