Offshore platform rescues fisherman after stroke at sea

A fisherman from Gia Lai was given emergency treatment on an offshore platform after suffering a stroke before being transferred for further care.

Naval Region 2 said forces on platform DK1/11 responded to a distress call at 10.17 am on March 29 from a fishing vessel operating near Tu Chinh.

Personnel guided the vessel to the platform and used a stretcher and crane to bring the 58-year-old patient aboard.

He showed symptoms including facial drooping, speech loss and limb weakness. Military medics diagnosed a stroke and provided initial treatment while consulting higher-level medical units.

Due to limited medical equipment on the platform, the crew was instructed to transfer the patient to a clinic in the Spratly Islands in Khanh Hoa province for continued care.
