Vietnam firms expand agricultural investment in Laos, Cambodia

Vietnamese firms are planning major agricultural investments in Laos and Cambodia for 2026-2030, with projects worth trillions of VND.

At a March 29 conference, Gia Lai authorities met leaders from Cambodia’s Preah Vihear, Ratanakiri and Stung Treng provinces, signing cooperation agreements for the next phase of development.

Hoang Anh Gia Lai Group agreed to invest nearly USD 29 million in a 2,000-hectare high-tech agriculture project in Stung Treng. The company is also developing a 3,000-hectare project producing bananas, durian and mulberry.

Nguyen Thi Thanh Lich, vice chairwoman of Gia Lai People’s Committee, said cooperation from 2021 to 2025 had delivered strong results, with bilateral trade exceeding USD 815 million. Fifteen Gia Lai-based companies are operating 19 projects in Cambodia with total registered capital of more than USD 913 million.

On the same day, Gia Lai also signed cooperation agreements for 2026-2030 with four southern Lao provinces: Attapeu, Champasak, Salavan and Sekong.

Under the agreements, PISICO Binh Dinh will explore investment in Sekong, focusing on industrial crops, timber plantations and seed supply, while also considering mining projects worth about VND 1.5 trillion.

The company is currently developing rubber and agricultural projects in Sekong, with more than 2,400 hectares of rubber in operation and 500 hectares of coffee planted, providing stable jobs for more than 500 local workers.
