Thunderstorm injures three, damages 4,000 homes in Lao Cai

A sudden thunderstorm in Lao Cai injured three people and damaged more than 4,000 homes between March 29 and early March 30.

According to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, the storm struck abruptly under clear skies, catching residents off guard. A sanitation worker was injured after being hit by a falling tree.

On Road 174 in Trung Tam ward, another tree collapsed onto a passing car, causing damage.

The storm affected 4,166 houses, many of them partially unroofed, and damaged about 5.6 hectares of crops, including industrial and fruit plants. Seven schools and two community cultural houses also had roofs torn off.

Total losses were estimated at around VND25.6 billion (USD973,000).

Authorities have been instructed to assess the damage, assist affected households and implement recovery measures, with efforts already under way.
