Danang to ban pavement trading in urban crackdown

Danang will ban all business activities on pavements as part of a citywide campaign to restore urban order, with enforcement set to be completed in the first quarter of 2026.

Under a new plan issued by the People’s Committee of Danang, the use of pavements for trading will be strictly prohibited.

Authorities will also ban the placement or installation of signboards, advertising panels, plant pots, decorative statues and other items on pavements and roadways.

Illegal “pop-up markets” will be dismantled, while motorbikes and bicycles parked on pavements must be neatly arranged. Stopping, parking and passenger pick-up or drop-off must take place only in designated areas to avoid disrupting traffic.

The city will also prohibit the posting, sticking or painting of advertisements on utility poles, traffic signal columns, trees and public infrastructure.

Pavements will be marked and divided based on their width. Those under four metres wide will allocate 1.5 metres next to buildings for pedestrians, with the remaining space used for motorbike parking.

Pavements between four and under six metres will reserve around two metres for parking and the rest for pedestrians, while those six metres or wider will allocate about 3.5 metres for motorbikes, with the remainder for foot traffic.

The campaign aims to standardise pavement use and improve traffic flow and public safety across the city.
