A decomposed 10 metre whale has washed ashore in Nghe An, with authorities coordinating its removal and burial in line with local customs.

Tran Thong, vice chairman of the Hai Chau Commune People’s Committee, said the whale measured about 10 metres in length and had already begun decomposing when it was spotted.

Local authorities are working with fishermen to bring the carcass ashore, using hired machinery and tarpaulins before carrying out burial procedures in accordance with coastal traditions.

Immediately after receiving the report, the commune directed relevant departments to inspect the site and coordinate response measures.

In coastal communities, whales are traditionally revered as Ong (Lord) fish, and when one washes ashore, authorities and fishermen often conduct rituals before burial.

Officials said they are expediting the process, including deploying excavators and necessary equipment, to ensure environmental hygiene in the coastal area.
