Police in Lam Dong said on March 19 they had detained Damian Shrimanker, 34, a UK national, in connection with the attack.

The incident occurred on the evening of March 18 on Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street in Mui Ne Ward, when the suspect’s motorbike collided with a car, leading to a heated argument with the driver.
Officers from Mui Ne Ward Police arrived at the scene to handle the dispute. During the intervention, the suspect allegedly used a weapon to attack Major Pham Nguyen Duc Lam, leaving him seriously injured and requiring emergency hospital treatment.

The suspect fled the scene on his motorbike after the assault.
Police later tracked him down and arrested him in Tan Minh Commune, more than 70km from where the incident took place.
